Sandra "Sandy" Walendzik passed away unexpectedly January 4, 2022. Sandy was a force of nature. Her no nonsense exterior belied her warm heart, generosity, and sense of humor that delighted friends.
After having attended school to become a Certified Occupational Therapist in Connecticut, where she grew up, Sandy moved to Wisconsin to attend Mount Mary College to obtain her Registered Occupational Therapist license. She then spent over 27 years working as an OTR at the Milwaukee County Child Adolescent Treatment Center.
In Wisconsin, Sandy blessed the Hecht family with a special friendship that lasted for over 45 years. She agreed to be godparent to the Hecht children, Chloe and Tommy, but "godparent" doesn't sufficiently describe the special place Sandy held in their lives. We will always treasure the memories of perfect birthday cakes, custom t-shirts, dinner conversations, Snoopy calendars and boat rides.
Always willing to help, in recent years Sandy offered to watch her goddaughter's baby Tommy several times a week.Tommy and his beloved "SiSi" spent nearly two years together entertaining each other. Sandy was a shining light in Tommy's life as well as his favorite person on which to nap.
Sandy is survived by her brother Gary Walendzik, of California, and she often spoke with immense pride of his accomplishments. She is further survived by close friends Shelly and Robert Hecht, Chloe Hecht-Rhodes and Kevin and Tommy Rhodes, Zora and Richard Szada, and Linda and Kip Maske. Sandy is preceded in death by her parents, Judy and Henry Walendzik, and godson Thomas Hecht. At Sandy's request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service. Sandy is a special soul, and there are numerous friends mourning her passing. We miss you dearly.
