Wallis Oppitz

July 18, 1919 — November 24, 2020

Wallis "Wally" Oppitz Born July 18, 1919, a World War II veteran, was called home to his eternal rest with Jesus on November 24, 2020. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Grace (nee Heck), his brothers Curtis and Warren, and his father Frank H. Oppitz and mother Rose (nee Shallock). He is survived by his five children, Wallis (Terri) Oppitz, Peggy (Ken) Bigler, Mark (Lou Ann) Oppitz, Elizabeth (Jeff) Kutil, and Jon (Kathy) Oppitz. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren who all affectionately called him G.P. Wallis and Grace were married on June 19, 1943. Shortly after, Wallis entered the Army Air Corps and was sent to the China, Burma, India Theater. His mission was search and rescue. He was there for 2 years. When he returned home he worked with his father in the family business "Oppitz Electric". When his father retired, Wallis took over. Recently he was presented with a distinguished 65 year pin as a member of the "International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers". Wallis and Grace loved to do things together, like fixing up old homes, building a lake cottage with their young sons, antique shopping, and later on, traveling down south to watch their grandsons play baseball, and "up north" to spend time with their kids and grandkids and took the time to visit with all the kids and their families. After Grace had passed, he kept busy! He worked in his yard, planting shrubs and flowers. He enjoyed the Brewer and Packer games, and read hundreds of books. He also continued to meet with fellow veterans and friends once a week at McDonald's. He also became even more involved at church. He counted money, came in very early to make coffee for the Bible Study classes, and teamed up with his friend Norb to pick up food and deliver it to St. Marcus' food pantry every week. He loved his church and he loved Lord and Savior. Wallis loved his birthdays, and he was really looking forward to his 100th birthday. On July 18th 2019 we celebrated it with many many family members, friends, and neighbors. Dad had impacted more lives than we even knew. It was a great day for all of us. On Wallis's menu for the party was a pig roast. The last few months, he wasn't able to attend church, but watched services faithfully every week. His son Jon set up a special DVD player for him and brought in the new sermon every week and installed them for him. He was failing and needing more and more help. With the help of all his children in many different ways, we were able to keep his wishes of staying in his home. He was the patriarch of our family, much loved, and already greatly missed. Special thanks to the nurses at Aurora in Grafton for taking such amazing care of our Dad. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Christ Alone Ev. Lutheran Church, Thiensville, WI, the Salvation Army, or Milwaukee Rescue Mission would be appreciated. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 12th from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at Christ Alone Ev. Lutheran Church, 247 S Main St, Thiensville with a funeral service to follow at 12:30 PM. Entombment Wisconsin Memorial Park.
