William Klug Iii

March 30, 1929 — April 29, 2021

The longer we live the more we learn, yet all of our experiences do not prepare us when it comes to the loss of someone we love. When Bill passed away at 92, after bravely fighting an 18-month battle with cancer, we lost a truly great person, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Bill grew up at the family cottage on Lake Nagawicka, near Delafield, Wisconsin. There he honed his sailing skills, a favorite activity that would foster a lifetime of deep friendships and adventures. Flying, snow skiing, kayaking, fly-fishing, travel, a love of the arts and classical music combined to make Bill the "Renaissance Man" for which he was so well known. He proudly served as a non-combat Navy Pilot during the Korean War and, at the end of his military service, he finished his degree at the Graduate School of Business, Marquette University. Bill later founded a successful manufacturer's rep business in Milwaukee, Klug Associates, Inc. Bill spent more that 40 years visiting and living in Wisconsin's Door County. He loved taking refuge there, finding great peace amidst the surrounding woods and water. He served on the of Birch Creek, supported the Door County Maritime Museum, and was active in men's discussion groups both in Door County and Fort Myers, Florida. Bill was an avid believer of education and a committed supporter of St. Marcus School in Milwaukee. Bill's curiosity and thought-provoking conversations reflected the deep faith that guided his life. All who knew Bill knew of his great love for his best friend and wife of 33 years, Gretchen. He is survived by Gretchen and his devoted dog Daisy, daughters Karey and Sara {Steve}, and grand-daughters Lucy, Katherine, and Caroline. Bill was interred during a private family service on May 18th at Wisconsin Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin on June 26, at 10:30 am. There will also be a celebration of Bill's Life in Fort Myers, Florida in the fall. Cards may be sent to Gretchen Klug P.O. Box 444 Ellison Bay, Wisconsin 54210. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The William Klug Memorial Fund at St. Marcus School, 2215 N. Palmer St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53212.
