Our History

In 1892, Bohemian-born Valentine Schramka became one of Milwaukee’s earliest licensed funeral directors, setting new standards of professionalism and care in funeral service. His dedication to families and his attention to detail quickly earned him a trusted reputation. When Holy Cross Cemetery opened in 1909, Valentine helped arrange some of its first burials, personally overseeing graveside services. His compassion became so well known that the area was affectionately called “Schramka’s Gardens.”

Today, we continue his legacy of service with the same integrity and respect. Locally operated and proudly modern, Schramka Funeral Homes remains dedicated to providing personalized, compassionate care to families across Greater Milwaukee—just as Valentine envisioned more than a century ago.
