Our Story

Schramka Funeral Homes were originally founded by Valentine Schramka more than five generations ago.

The Bohemian-born pioneer embraced the notion of a  “licensed” funeral director as early as 1892, lifting the professionalism and integrity of funeral service at the time in ways not seen before. This has always been a part of the culture at Schramka.

Valentine was also one of the first to arrange burials at Holy Cross Cemetery  when it opened in 1909. His popularity and attentiveness to families in overseeing graveside services in the south part of the cemetery earned the area the affectionate moniker, “Schramka’s Gardens.”

Schramka Today

Times have changed of course. The call for five-horse-and-carriage funeral processions to the cemetery is rare, but never out of the question. If it's important to you, it's important to us and we will do everything we can accommodate your wishes.

Today, Schramka Funeral Homes’ Brookfield location, across from Wisconsin Memorial Park , is a study in peaceful modernity and simplicity. We are locally operated and provide convenient services among our four locations

Most important, we continue to provide Greater Milwaukee-area families with a trusted and highly personal brand of attention and respect.

“Families have turned to Schramka Funeral Homes again and again, bearing witness to the fact that our services have continued to be exceptional for an incredibly long time.”

- Paul Schramka (1928-2019) former funeral director and professional baseball player
