Back sometime when I was around eight years old, Dad had picked up another of his side jobs to help provide for the family. This one was a regular mowing of a very large yard with a small push mower for two elderly ladies who made the best home made lemonade ever ! I would go with him and we would switch off mowing duties as this lawn was simply humungo! We would get there very early in the morning and on this particular one it had rained the night before making it very thick and slippery. At one point probably about half way through the day, dad was mowing and on a pretty good incline when he slipped and lost control of the mower for a split second. He recovered and kept on mowing. I was off in the distance raking then some time later he signaled me over to switch off. As i was getting closer I noticed something white sticking out of the front of dad's brown work shoe.. It got larger as I got closer and when he was handing off the mower to me I realized when he slipped earlier he had actuallly cut off the front top part of his shoe and his big toe was sticking out of it! I looked at it sort of stunned and he gave me his famous smerk and simply said "finish er up". That rocked!!! I mean as a eight year old i'm like here he almost cuts his toe off and doesn't miss a beat and just keeps going ! It taught me finish the job you came to do, do what you have to to provide, and when I grow up where steel toed boots ! Thanks for the lesson dad. I love you
