In one sense, it is extraordinarily fitting that Mrs. Schroeder went to God on Mother's Day, the day conceived to honor women like her. But the reality is that although I've known many wonderful mothers, I've known very few that were like her. Anita Schroeder lost her husband, her older son, Bruce, and fought with very fibre of strength within her tiny frame to stay alive to care for her younger son, Keith, who has been so cruelly afflicted with MS for thees many decades. Despite dozens of hospitalizations herself, every time one of us (Keith's high school classmates) saw her, she was always cheerful, kind, and welcoming. Dying just a few months before she turned 100, Mrs. Schroeder earned a legion of fans comprised of all who knew her. It's impossible to know the depth of Keith's grief at this horrible time; but he should know that he doesn't grieve alone. We miss her -- and her boundless love for Keith -- too!
