Obituary for Sacramento G. Delgadillo

Sacramento Delgadillo was born in the rural village of Gruñidora, Mexico in 1924 -- some documents indicate April 26 and others May 28 -- and died in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 2, 2018 at the age of 93. His name indicates that his entry into this world was regarded as a sign of grace, and grace he was for us all, at many different moments, throughout his long life. He worked as a contract bracero on a cotton farm in Texas, returning to Mexico when that term ended. In the 1950s, he immigrated to Milwaukee. A year later, his wife Amalia and five of his children joined him. For thirty years, Sacramento was a tannery worker. Upon retirement, he worked as a parking lot attendant and rented out rooms. He enjoyed picnics in Milwaukee parks, The Crusher's wrestling matches, Mexican music, helping his family, shopping at Sears, and family gatherings. He was preceded in death by losses he felt keenly, including his infant son; his wife, Amalia; his sisters Elvira Delgadillo and Herminia Martinez; his brother Refugio. He was loved by his nine children: Angelica, Elena (Antonio), Fernando (Linda), Jesse, Anthony (Janet), Sacramento Jr., Theresa, Robert (Barbara), and Rosemary (Tim). He was very proud of his twenty-one grandchildren and his twenty-one great-grandchildren and his many nieces and nephews. The family is grateful to Wendy Thompson and her family for helping us to care for him in his final months.

Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at Schramka-Borgwardt Chapel, 11030 West Forest Home, Hales Corners, WI, 53130. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service. Memorial contributions in his honor are appreciated to the Becas Scholarship Program, Centro Hispano of Dane County, 810 West Badger Road, Madison, WI 53713. http://www.micentro.org/centro-beca-program.html
