In one of the plays we did together in the 80s, the basement of the old school was a jungle of furniture and costumes. There were designated changing areas for actors, male and female, but they were somewhat remote. Some of us, including myself, would steal behind a clothing rack for a quick costume change. I didn't sense modesty, as I felt I was among friends with a common goal. None of us was ever nude.
However, someone apparently complained about our methods. Director Tom Zuehlke, in our pre-practice meeting, called it to our attention. I was standing near the back of the group at that meeting, and Evvie was on my right. As Tom was admonishing us to use the changing rooms that had been provided, I heard a bit of restless rustling from her direction. The light was poor, and we were all focusing on what Tom was saying.
Later I looked and saw that Evvie had made a complete wardrobe change during the 5 minute meeting. She had done it in our presence, under her long sleeved T-shirt, without the need for a trip through the basement to the designated (female) changing area. She was never nude. Thinking back, it's probably a trick she learned during her stage training and thereafter.
I didn't get to know her very well, but I continue to be impressed by this one ability she had. Of course she had many others, and I love her for them.
